During its heyday, this jet fighter airplane was given the nickname "The Fork-Tailed Devil" by the Germans in reference to its distinctive twin boom structure, which gave this plane the power of two fully operating engines. With its unusually quiet exhaust system, this warbird could easily dive and zoom towards enemy targets and annihilate them using its four machine guns (and one cannon, if things got really messy). Pilots could rely on the sturdy aircraft, counting on its ability to still operate even with one engine out of commission. One of its most notable moments happened during the Second World War, when it took down Japanese Commander-in-Chief Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto. This was a heavy blow to the Japanese morale and raised the Lockheed P-38 Lightning to hero status.
